New Southside BBQ and Market Hutto Location Opens

By Round the Rock

Follow The Smoke to Southside BBQ and Market’s Brand New Hutto Location

Locally owned Southside Market is the oldest BBQ joint in Texas selling authentic Central Texas barbeque and just opened its forth location in Hutto located in the new 35-acre Co-Op District.

A Texan’s love for authentic Texas BBQ is undeniable and now we are lucky to have one of our most beloved BBQ joints within a short driving distance from Round Rock.

Southside Market, which originated in downtown Elgin, TX, in 1882, is the oldest BBQ joint in Texas selling authentic Central Texas barbeque for meat-lovers who value quality. The Hutto location features an outdoor patio, a drive-thru for easy ordering on-the-go, and offers Southside’s premium seasoning blends, smoked meats, sauces, and more for sale. Whether you’re a local, passing through, or looking to take a road trip to enjoy real Texas BBQ, the Hutto location is a must-visit stop in Central Texas.=

Southside BBQ and Market Hutto: History

Owned by third-generation Pitmaster Bryan Bracewell and his wife Rachel, this iconic restaurant brand has grown over the past 137 years from a one-man butcher shop to its current status as a must-visit destination for those seeking the finest sausage and smoked meats that Texas has to offer.

Southside Market’s history in the barbeque industry dates back to 1882 when original founder William Moon began selling meat in Elgin by wagonload. At the end of each day, he’d take whatever was left and make smoked sausage and barbeque to avoid spoilage, as in that era there was no refrigeration.

Four years later, he opened up a storefront on what was then known as South Street, and the legend began. Bracewell’s grandfather, who called on the store as a salesman at the time, decided to buy the business in 1968, and the family has carried on the rich tradition of exceptional sausage and barbeque following the same authentic methods of smoking low and slow over real Texas post oak wood, since 1882.

Southside BBQ and Market Hutto:A Perfect Fit

The developers of the mixed use Co-Op District believe that Southside Market is a perfect match with this locally owned Texas business and excited to have the restaurant in Hutto. Brian and Rachel are so thankful to be included in this community. The District offers a big-city experience with a small-town quality of life and feel that this is a natural fit for both.

The Co-Op is a new master planned mixed-use lifestyle development and a unique entertainment destination. Situated on 35 acres adjacent to historic Downtown Hutto, the development integrates Hutto’s past with its future. The renovated cotton gin building and original cotton silos add to the historic aesthetic of the site.

Top notch customer service, company culture, impeccable quality of the sausages and BBQ are the keys to their long-lasting success. The pay off is that we get to experience real Texas BBQ in a comfortable family-style atmosphere that will keep you coming back.

Recently, I got a behind-the-scenes look at what keeps people coming to make this one of the most successful local eating establishments around. Brian (owner) and Robert Wells (GM for Southside) demonstrated how the massive smokers operate.

Just about every meat imaginable is slow-smoked to perfection with post oak wood around the clock to assure that they don’t run out of your favorite bbq, and I really like that!   Everything you eat there is cooked on site. They refuse to take any shortcuts.

Everyday from open to close – seven days a week- you can choose mouthwatering choices of brisket, chicken, pork ribs, lamb ribs, pork steak and a variety of sausages.

Southside BBQ and Market Hutto: You will never go hungry eating here!

The sweet aromas of smoke met me at the door and instantly had my mouth watering in anticipation of authentic Texas BBQ.

Southside Market Hutto location will serve the same beloved menu as the Elgin, Bastrop, and Austin locations of BBQ-by-the-half pound, including the famous Original Beef Sausage, USDA Prime brisket, chopped beef, jalapeño cheddar sausage, chicken, pork, ribs, and more. Sandwiches, salads, a loaded chopped brisket baked potato, and sides, including coleslaw, beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, and mac & cheese, are available on the lunch and dinner menu.

Larger family-style meals are also available and the restaurant offers a variety of catering packages. Guests are invited to end their meal with a sweet treat from a selection of homemade cobblers, banana pudding, or a hand-dipped ice cream cone.

A real Texas BBQ Feast!

Get your fill of Texas BBQ by the plate or tray. The meat choices are almost endless and are rounded out by the most fresh and well-seasoned sides I’ve had in a long time. You could make a meal just on these alone!

At our dining experience, the motto was go big or go home. We wanted to sample everything so we did! I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed each bite of succulent, smoked to perfection meat. Oh,the brisket, chicken, pork and lamb ribs hit the spot!

And, those Sausage Slammers with spicy jalapenos and melted cheese are so addictive!
